I've just found a site that pulls at my heartstrings. It's
[link] It's an online march on Washington about global warming. Check it out. Yes, I know this seems a little dramatic, but this is how I feel, and I feel that I should spread (more) awareness. Why do I march?:
The world is getting warming, and some choose to ignore it. It can't be ignored, it's all around us. I'm tired of people only taking action when something directly effects them. Even if the impact of global warming has not yet reached you, without a doubt it will. Humans are not the only living things in this world, and we have no right to destroy it. There's an opportunity to prevent further damage, why anyone would pass it up is beyond me. I live in Minnesota, and I can see the damage right in front of me. For years I've been watching as global warming crept its way into my life. I've been preaching the facts and hoping people will listen. When I was six and seven, feet of snow would blanket the ground, and stay all winter. There was always snow at christmas time, it always dropped below zero, and there was no reason to worry about thin ice. Now, I couldn't even go ice skating in mid-January because the ice was so thin, because the weather was so warm. I haven't been able to sled, play hockey, or admire nature's way of refreshing the world. It RAINED in DECEMBER. It makes me sick, when people comment "what a wonderful day, it's so warm. I wish we had more days like this," during the winter, during months that should be -20 degrees. Well, those people will get their wish if globing warming continues, if no one takes action. Now that I'm sixteen, I feel like it's my duty to do something about it, to join the others fighting to save the world, even if the only impact I have is through this statement. I complain about it being warm, while others complain about the cold. My heart aches when I walk through the mud that should be snow and ice, when I hear the dripping sounds around me, or notice that the trees have been fooled into budding three months early. There are bigger things at stake here than the lack of ice for ice-skating and snow for sledding. The world is melting. Animals are dying, plants are dying, the ocean is warming and rising, and the climate is indelibly changed. It's obvious that, even were global warming some part of a 'natural cycle,' humans have increased that rate triple fold. If we're causing it, then what's preventing us from stopping it?! I beseech the world and all the people in it, open your eyes. I march for the earth.
